I just LOVE the styles and patterns from era's like the 1920's through to the 1950's and as wallpaper was very fashionable during this time it is something that now is a very popular retro design influence for many.

So these gorgeous pattern tiles from DreamDigitalDownload are a fabulous feast of color for the eyes and reminiscent of those old fashioned paper patterns of many decades gone by.

Although these are just small swatches of pattern there are so many ways they can be used, either singly or together, and as a digital item the uses are really just limited to your imagination!

Personally I think the color combinations are great and love them displayed just as they are!

Sher describes her 'beverage cart' clipart set as having a very relaxing feel. And I couldn't agree more!

There is something so reminiscent about these cute little clips that reminds me of hanging about the kitchen in my childhood, with mom making a selection of pies for guests and pulling out her quirky mismatched teacups that were only used for 'special'. Then all the women would huddle round the table for a good long gossip!

Whatever it reminds you of there is one thing for sure and that is the homey feel these pieces have!

There are more just like this too in Sher's shop so if you like these I recommend taking at peak at the others!

Designers Challenge No 2

Calling all Digital Designers!

Our next challenge is a self promo piece which will help you to spread the word about your work.

The Challenge: To create a digital business postcard for your Etsy shop, blog, Facebook page, portfolio site... whatever you feel needs to be promoted the most for your design work.

The Deadline: Entries are to be uploaded to the team facebook page at your own convenience on any day and at any time during the month of March.

The winner with the most response to their posting on the team facebook page will be considered the designer with the most favorite postcard!

Please choose your posting time wisely and only post to facebook once per entry; however, you may make and enter as many postcards as you like!

Winner will be selected on March 30th.

The Rules:

1. You must include either your name or your business name and some form of contact detail.
2. Overall design is your choice.

3. Postcard should be 14cm x 11cm in landscape orientation. Or thereabouts.

The Prize: Glory and Recognition, plus your very own virtual Golden Trophy!

Ideas on how to use your digital postcard:
1. Any of your online pages, website, social network, blog etc.
2. Your Etsy store - have some spare image slots, promote your blog or FB page!
3. Have them printed to give out to potential customers or friends.

Just Birds is a collection of some of my favorite digital bird images from within the team.

My first week living in the UK was at this time of year, just on the verge of spring, and I couldn't believe the noise of the bird song ~ at bloody 4am!

Of course now I'm an avid bird watcher and love to watch all the lovely song birds at the feeder outside my window!

I noticed Heather's artwork a while ago and have been meaning to feature something of hers here for weeks now but it's so hard to pick a favorite in her shop!

I love the style she uses and this particular piece is one I really admire.

This is an ACEO which is a small collectors piece sized at just 2.5 x 3.5in and is mailed as a print.

Heather also makes jewelery pieces with her art along with larger printed artwork, custom portraits and custom pet portraits!

Artist Insight... Poppyseed Heroes

I love all things pop culture.

It's been ingrained in my brain since I was old enough to hold a video game controller, comic book or star wars figure in the early 80's. And almost as early I picked up a pen and started drawing all the things I love. Tastes refine, but rarely change and the same is certainly true of me.

As a graphic designer of some 7 years standing, I have fallen in love with the popular minimalist style print, and am working to produce as many eye catching prints as I can based on the things I have loved all my life.

I have a limited, but growing selection right now, mostly movie based original art that I try to update at least once a week. All my prints are 11" x 17" digital on gorgeous 100# mohawk coverstock with a nice satin finish, perfect for framing or wall mounting.

Some of my favorites are my Studio Ghibli inspired designs, based on movies directed by Hayao Miyazaki, who is one of the worlds most truly wonderful storytellers. Seriously, if you aren't familiar with his animated films, do yourself a favor no matter your age and watch one of the films my below prints are inspired by!

You won't be disappointed.

This set is so cute and would be so perfect for a girly rocker birthday theme. What fun would that be! Of course it's perfect for many other uses as well and the nice thing is that you get to customize the text in this one for your own purposes.

And there is more like this is in Corazón Dulce's shop!

Dulce Clorio is a designer in Mexico and according to her Etsy profile has just celebrated one year selling on Etsy.

And in case your Spanish is a bit iffy - corazón dulce translates to 'sweet heart'. how sweet indeed.

DIY... Handmade Journals

I don't keep a daily diary as such, and for me a journal is a very utilitarian item. A place where I can make my lists, reminders, record ideas and inspiration and sketch out my thoughts. But utilitarian does not mean ugly. I do love a pretty book!

My favorite kinds are ones like these pictured opposite from Blue Pandemonium. Simple but cute and I don't feel guilty about throwing them away once finished. (I never keep my notebooks long term - too start with I wouldn't have the shelf space!) But I also like spiral bound notebooks where it's easier to rip pages out.

I was recently given a leather bound journal which is so beautiful that I'm afraid to write in it. The pages are hand stitched so you don't go ripping out pages here! The problem is my hand writing is abysmal. So I'm looking for ideas on what to use a beautiful leather bound book full of blank pages for! Any ideas?

With so many wonderful digital products available it's quite easy for the crafty minded to make their own, and I know at least some of you already do! So for those of you who haven't yet tried your hand at making your own journals I've found a great tutorial from Etsy seller Linda Tieu who runs her Etsy store TortaGialla from the hills of Tuscany. You can read the full instructions about binding journals on her blog.
